Wednesday Writing: 28th October 2015

The idea of Wednesday Writing is to give you a prompt to write…anything! It can be a 100-word story; it can be a poem; it can be the trigger for the next section in your stalled novel; it can be for the plot of your next work. Sit down and write whatever comes out of your head!

This week’s prompt is a phrase: “Well, that tentacled bastard never told me that!”

This week’s prompt is a phrase:

“What do you mean, you accidentally hit him with a shovel?”

2pm: Central Library 2nd Floor Reading Room

FREE ENTRY: Please book your seat in advance at The Ground Floor Help Desk at Central Library SN1 1QG (Tel: 01793 463792)
Author Sarah Jasmon discusses her experience of the writing process: how to channel inspiration; putting thoughts to paper; advice on getting published as well as discussing her novel The Summer of Secrets.
Sarah Jasmon grew up in Swindon. She always knew she was going to be a writer but life got in the way until, just before her 40th birthday, she started an MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University. Shortly after graduating Sarah landed a two book deal with Transworld, and her debut novel The Summer of Secrets was published in August 2015.

Wednesday Writing: 7th October 2015

The idea of Wednesday Writing is to give you a prompt to write…anything! It can be a 100-word story; it can be a poem; it can be the trigger for the next section in your stalled novel; it can be for the plot of your next work. Sit down and write whatever comes out of your head!

This week’s prompt is both a word and an image. The image is the Shakespeare&Company bookshop in Paris, and the best original image I can find is from The History Girls Blogspot. The word is from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows.

November 2015: NaNoWriMo

This year, Swindon FreeWriters are doing National Novel Writing Month!

NaNoWriMo is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.

The website is at NaNoWriMo.org. Our local region is Swindon, but you can also join Wiltshire.

Swindon FreeWriters will be joining forces with the NaNo admins for the duration of the month, so we won’t have the usual meeting at Brogan’s – we’ll be in Swindon Central Library! Keep an eye on the NaNo calendar for details for other meet-ups, and we hope to see you there.

October 2015 meeting

The next Swindon Free Writers meeting will be on the 3rd October 2015 from 12pm to 3pm.

It will be held at Brogan’s Cafe in Swindon town centre. The address is 12 Havelock Square, Swindon, SN1 1LE. Map link:  http://goo.gl/MtqIJD

The agenda includes writing discussions, a chance to talk about what you’ve read recently, and some time to work on your own projects – as well as a chance to meet other Swindon writers.

If you are a current member of SFW, remember to submit any work that you want critiqued to the forums, and mention what kind of critique you are looking for.

Hope to see you there!
